First Wednesday Luncheon: Meg Wastie on The History of Crossword Puzzles

As part of the The Westfield Historical Society’s First Wednesday Luncheon series, Meg Wastie, Program Consultant for the Westfield Historical Society, will be speaking on the topic of The History of Crossword Puzzles on January 2, 2019. The event will begin with check-in at 11:45 am at the Echo Lake Country Club, located at 515 Springfield Avenue, Westfield.

Whether you’re a cruciverbalist or not, you will enjoy Meg’s lively and interactive talk on the iconic Crossword Puzzle. Meg has researched crossword puzzles and discusses the history and lore of one of America’s favorite past times. So, ring in the New Year by challenging your mind and intellect with some good old-fashioned cruciverbalism (the compilation of crosswords).

 Meg Wastie, is currently the Program Consultant for the Westfield Historical Society where she works on developing and presenting educational history programs for Westfield and the surrounding community. A graduate of Westfield High School, Meg is former Curator of the Museum of Early Trades and Crafts in Madison, NJ. She also holds degrees from Seton Hall (MA in Museum Professions), Kean University (MA in Student Personnel Services), and Monmouth University (BS in Secondary Education). Meg has 15 years of experience in Museum education and 32 years of teaching High School English. She currently resides in Basking Ridge.

Please advise if there are special dietary needs. The luncheon fee of $35 (WHS members) or $40 (non-members) includes a three-course meal, coffee/tea, and gratuity. The luncheon fee should be paid in advance (check payable to Westfield Historical Society) by mailing to Westfield Historical Society, P.O. Box 613, Westfield, NJ  07091; or, pay online by clicking on “Registration” at the top of this page. Payments should be received by Friday prior to the luncheon. Westfield Historical Society memberships will also be available at the luncheon.

The Westfield Historical Society is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Since 1968, the 501(c)(3) non-profit Westfield Historical Society has worked to preserve, interpret and encourage interest in history, Westfield, and its residents through educational efforts and community outreach programs.
